Pierre-Mathieu Pélissier is a Policy Officer at the European Commission (DG Research & Innovation), where he focuses on biotechnologies applied to the bioeconomy and food systems. He is involved in shaping policies initiatives related to this topic such as the EU Biotech Act, the new Bioeconomy Strategy and the Life Sciences Strategy. With a career spanning bench science, venture capital, policy and technology transfer, he specializes in navigating the "valley of death" between laboratory breakthroughs and regulatory frameworks.

 

He previously served as a Technology Transfer Officer at the Joint Research Centre (JRC), and as an Investment Associate in agri-biotech venture capital. Pierre-Mathieu holds a Doctorate in Biochemistry and Biotechnology from Ghent University (VIB-UGent), where his research focused on rice nitrogen use efficiency. He integrates a technical expertise in plant systems biology with a pragmatic understanding of market alignment and European strategic foresight.
