Chief of the One Health and Disease Control Branch in the Animal Production and Health Division

Dr Junxia Song is Chief of the One Health and Disease Control Branch in the Animal Production and Health Division at FAO Headquarters. She provides strategic and technical leadership for FAO’s work on animal health, One Health, transboundary animal diseases (TADs), and antimicrobial resistance (AMR). In this role, she offers technical guidance, supports policy development, and assists Members in strengthening national strategies and capacities.

 

From 2020 to 2025, Dr Song served as Senior Animal Health Officer at FAO Headquarters, leading the One Health Coordination and AMR cluster. She coordinated FAO’s work on AMR and One Health and represented FAO in the Quadripartite Joint Secretariats. During this period, she led key initiatives, including the FAO Action Plan on AMR, the 10‑year RENOFARM programme, the InFARM system, and the development of the Framework on One Health in Agrifood Systems, while supporting implementation of the One Health Joint Plan of Action and the Global Action Plan on AMR from Agrifood Perspective.

 

Prior to joining FAO, Dr Song spent over 20 years at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, working on TAD and zoonotic disease control, veterinary drug administration, AMR, and international cooperation. She holds a PhD in Veterinary Public Health from China Agricultural University.
